The crash happened on Orrstown Road near Blind Lane in Southampton Township at 10:52 p.m., state police detailed in the release. Newell was riding
"at a high rate of speed" around a curve when he left his lane, crossed into oncoming traffic, and struck the guide rail, the police said.
That's when Newell fell off of his bike and struck the guide rail post as his motorcycle rode off into a nearby field, police explained.
Davey was a Chambersburg native who went on to be a class of 1999 graduate of the Shippensburg Area Senior High School, according to social media and his obituary published on the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. website. He was a member of the Walnut Bottom Rod & Gun Club, and worked at The Manitowoc Company in Shady Grove.
For fun, he liked to shoot pool and ride his motorcycle, as stated in his obituary.
He is survived by his parents David R. (Mary) Newell, Sr. of Shippensburg and mother, Rindi L. (Jeff) Dellinger of Newburg; his son; his partner, Rita Sarver of Orrstown; three siblings, Wayland (Katie) Stouffer of Amberson, Jeremy (Stacey) Stouffer of Newburg, and Amanda Martin of Etters; and extended family, as detailed in his obituary.
A celebration of his life was held at the Walnut Bottom Rod & Gun Club located at 13 Pine Road in Walnut Bottom at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21.
